Why use an automated multipoint tension infiltrometer?
Tension disk infiltrometers are commonly used to determine soil unsaturated hydraulic conductivity in the field. Data thus obtained can be used to evaluate temporal changes in soil hydraulic properties caused by tillage, the effect of crust formation, and the effect of water repellency on infiltration. Their function is based on the rate at which water in a reservoir infiltrates into soil.
Traditional disk infiltrometers require visual monitoring by the operator. This is labor-intensive, especially in soils with low hydraulic conductivity. We have developed a multi-minidisk device capable of unattended operation, freeing users to perform other duties while collecting data from three points simultaneously. |
